Greetings, today I will present to you the annoyances of being here in the Philippines. our topic for today is the common Filipino Neighbor. Please take note that this article does not in any way, aim to generalize all Filipinos as annoyances. What I am about to tell you is just my own personal experiences and opinions. Not all Filipinos are like what I'm about to tell you, though most of them are. ^^,
Ok now let's start. If there's one particular word that can describe them, it is the word "noisy". Yup! They are one very noisy bunch. I have experienced losing one whole night of sleep just because of their noisy disregard for others. I have experienced being awaken in the middle of the night by a noisy throttling motorcycle. I have experienced being distracted from studying. I will enumerate to you one by one their insensitiveness.
Noisy neighbors:
1) When they tell you on TV or in any other media that Filipinos love to sing, you'll be surprised how true that statement is. Filipinos will sing anytime, any day, at the top of their lungs, even in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of morning. There's nothing wrong with that right? Wait till you hear the booming sound of a thousand watts sound system. If they want to sing, sing! By all means I am not against it, but please don't use a sound system that can awaken the whole block to broadcast their voice. All I have to do is to close all my windows to stop their voice from entering my house, but noooo... They just have to use a very powerful sound system that even a 1 foot thick wall can't possibly contain.
2) Ok, now let's move on. Cars coming home late at night or in the early morning. People with garages are the idiots here. You'll be awakened by a series of loud honks from a car, waiting for the gate of the garage to be opened by someone from the inside. You think rich people have ethics? You're absolutely wrong. Do you think a poor person can afford a car, much less a 3000 watts sound system? The best way to notify a house mate that you are home and you need the gates to be opened is to call your landline from your celfone. It's just impossible for him to have no celfone and to have no load. Maybe once ok, but every night? That's just plain stupidity.
3) Next is another stupidity. Coming home very late at night without a key. You all know the picture, a person comes home very late without a key, so he knocks on his own house waiting for someone to get the door and let him in. The problem is, since it's already late at night, the person he expects to open the door for him is already sound asleep. So he keeps on knocking louder and louder, until the knocks become bangs and become very very loud, until it becomes so irritating I grind my teeth and wish that that person never ever gets to enter his own house. Majority of the houses in the Philippines doesn't have a door bell. This happens every night.
4) Next is the Filipino's distorted notion of power. Here in the Philippines, they think noise = more engine power. They just love to make their motorcycles noisier. They remove the original mufflers and replace them with deeper, louder ones. They put all kinds of noisy blings on their motorcycles. A deep booming muffler, a speaker that simulates the sound of a Ducatti big bike, brake sounds, even stereo with tweeters! It's not just motorcycles, but also jeepneys and cars. They are so noisy that when they pass that sometimes you can't even hear the TV that's right in front of you. They also can't tell night from day, it doesn't matter to them whether or not they disturb anyone. If your neighbor owns a motorcycle or a jeepney, prepare yourself for some teeth grinding sleepless nights and early morning wake ups.
To sum it all up. Filipino neighbors are ridiculously noisy and they cannot tell night from day. It's either they are full blown stupid idiots or just trying his best to annoy the hell out of you. You may not know but he may be doing it just to get at you. Just to let you know, I've recently transferred residence, and the result is just the same.
